Work Experience

I'm not sure which catergory this falls under but here we go!

I have decided that after completing my degree, I am going to take a course in photography. At the moment I work for Tilllate.com in Leeds as an event photographer but I decided to get some work experience over summer.

I have been working with Debbie Hardy from Studio 25 Wedding photography and on the 6th July I went on a shoot called "Trash the Dress". This is an American concept where after the Wedding and honeymoon, the bride and groom get dressed up in their wedding gear and take pictures in their favourite locations. Without the worry of ruining the dress we went to Clitheroe castle grounds to take pictures in the park and to Edisford Bridge to take pictures in the river.

The advantages of the day were that I would never have got the chance to take these kinds of pictures without Debbie. Also I really enjoyed the experience and it made me realise how much I wanted to continue with the work experience. Debbie also offered me some work experience in the studio and to go to a wedding with her sometime soon. I was really pleased with the results of my personal pictures, even though I was only taking them on a point and shoot digital camera rather than a professional camera.

This takes me onto the disadvantages, which are that if I continue with this work experience then I need to purchase an SLR camera which are not cheap! The professional pictures came out amazingly well and the client loved the experience. I also found that I have none of the technical knowledge I need in order to take professional pictures, but that is why I am doing the experience and hoping to take a course next year. I need to be more vocal in expressing my opinions about locations and settings as Debbie and Gareth completely appreciated my opinion and took on board my ideas.

For my first real photoshoot I found it very professional but relaxed at the same time, Debbie and Gareth had firm ideas of what they wanted from the shoot but also let the clients input their own ideas. I loved it!

I think this is a really interesting concept and the photographs you've got (even from your compact camera) are beautiful. I find the photograph of the bride in the river particularly stunning, as usually you would never see a wedding dress in photographs away from the church or wedding reception.
