Fashion Illustration by Fashion Designers, Laird Borelli

This book features fashion designs drawn by the fashion designeres themselves. The illustrations are beautiful and really capture the process of the design and the personality of the designer. I loved how each designer had a different style of illustration and the detail that goes into such design.

Guerilla Advertising: Unconventional Brand Communication, Ty Montague, Gavin Lucas, Mike Dorrian

This book looks at the unusual methods advertisers have gone to to promote their company. The first use of guerilla advertising is the use of the MSN butterflies which were placed all over New York. This was a creative way to incorporate brand identity into everyday life, the repetition will force people to remember it and those who do not know about the brand will be curious to learn more about it. My other favourite are the images of two men "carrying" a window, the men are actually carrying nothing with the premise that the window cleaning service is so good, you won't be able to see the glass. Guerilla advertising is a very effective design tool and this book shows how it can be very cleverly incorporated into everyday life.

The Disciples, James Mollison

Sine 2004, photographer James Mollison has been to pop concerts all over Europe taking pictures of the fans. The Disciples documents 8 images of fans from each concert from the likes of the Arctic Monkeys to The Rolling Stones.

Each page creates a line up of the fans and how they look. The books illustrates how these bands have become an integral part of popular culture and how their music shapes the images of the fans.

Street Sketches

This book takes a look at the work of graffiti and street artists in the UK today. The book documents their use of typography, personal feelings, stories, creatures and doodles.
Since the population of the work of Banksy, graffiti art has become more widely accepted as a form of art and epression rather than just vandalism. The book shows creative talent and an ability to create original ideas, this goes a long way in making art more accessable to the public.

Boodles Wonderland Collection

The Boodles Wonderland Collection is inspired by all things in nature, the jewellery includes gold hummingbirds, platinum swallows and diamond stars.

The typography inside the book is fantastic for the theme as it appears handwritten, a more conventional typography would have looked wrong in this particular book.

The photography shows the jewellery both on models and on its own. On its own the jewellery is photgraphed on a black background with some kind of natural element (flower blossoms, branches and feathers). The black background doesn't divert the eye from the jewellery and makes it appear brighter and sparklier, which is what jewellery is all about.

The illustration on the front of the book is a great representation of what is inside as many of the designs include images from this design. There is also a website on this collection: http://www.boodles.co.uk/wonderland/1.html
